It seems like every time I fall, I fall a little harder. I say "I'm coming back to You", give an inch but take a yard, or Don't even tray at all. I don't know why you bother. I open up the book, I swear I will read one more chapter. Phone rings and I'm off the hook, I guess You'll have to wait 'til after. Should have known that I'd try and fail, days passing and I'm getting nowhere. Sometimes I feel like I've got nothing left to bring. No song that hasn't been sung left for me to sing. And then I pray this prayer of desperation. Give me words when I don't know how to praise You. Give me vision to make these blind eyes see. Give me ears to hear Your words of truth and mercy. Lord won't you make me better than me? It's Sunday morning, can I please just sleep for five more minutes? Don't know how I can speak Your truth when my heart isn't in it. Only one thing left to do - hit my knees and I'm coming back to you. Give me words when I don't know how to praise You. Give me vision to make these blind eyes see. Give me ears to hear Your words of truth and mercy. Lord won't you make me better than me? Sometimes I feel like I've got nothing left to bring. No song that hasn't been sung left for me to sing. And then I pray this prayer of desperation. Give me words when I don't know how to praise You. Give me vision to make these blind eyes see. Give me ears to hear Your words of truth and mercy. Lord won't you make me better than me?

Wings 03:17
Don't let me cry again, please take this pain away from me. I'm broken inside again, feels like the same old routine. Can't tell my ups from downs, falling away from the One who loves me. Won't You love me? So hold me Jesus, Holy Spirit never let me go. I'm getting tired again, think I'll stop here for a while. Here in Your arms again, maybe in time I can smile. Giving up all control, falling back into the One who heals me. Can You heal me? And hold me Jesus, Holy Spirit never let me go. 'Cause I'll give You my heart if You give me Your hand, So I'll have a place to stand. And I'll rest in the shadow of Your wings.

Julie's a waitress at a diner downtown, But she's got a secret she's carrying around. She's just 21 and she's out on her own. No boy in the picture and she's three months along. She needs somebody to tell her they care, To prove she's not really alone. Will anyone tell her they lover her? Will anyone stay by her side? We are secondhand people, And we are not worth what we used to be... Jimmy's a lawyer, the best one around. He works in an office high above the ground. But Jimmy's got a secret that he holds inside. The doctor's found something and he's short on time. He needs somebody to give him a shoulder, To tell him that he's not alone. Will anyone tell him they love him? Will anyone stay by his side? We are secondhand people, And we are not worth what we used to be. We've all gone astray, And forgotten the way back home To the things that we used to be Before we lost sight of our lives. Will anyone out there pay the price For secondhand people? Tony's a doctor, hasn't practiced in years. Reached for the bottle to calm all his fears. He lost his family, then he lost his home, Now he's on the streets and completely alone. There's a light on at the church on the corner, I wonder what he'll find inside? Will anyone tell him they love him? Will anyone stay by his side? We are secondhand people, And we are not worth what we used to be. We've all gone astray, And forgotten the way back home To the things that we used to be Before we lost sight of our lives. Thank God somebody already paid the price For all of us secondhand people.

Already 03:44
It's been a long night, and we both know how it will end. We've been down this road before. I won't go down it again. Because the minutes pass so slowly as the hours creep on by. Isn't it ironic that we both just need some time? I'm staring at the wall, wishing there could be some other way, But your eyes are telling all I need to hear. And the silence is deafening, I can't think and I can't breathe. I guess I'd better go and get some air. But I'll just see you standing there, running your fingers through your hair. I'm missing you already, and you're not even gone. We both knew that this was coming, shouldn't take us by surprise, But it's still so hard to close a chapter in our lives. Now you're moving towards the door, storm clouds rolling on the skies. And then you're driving off as the rain falls from our eyes. And the silence is deafening, I can't think and I can't breathe. I guess I'd better go and get some air. But I'll just see you standing there, running your fingers through your hair. I'm missing you already, and you're not even gone.

Beautiful 05:23
She thinks she's all alone now. There's nothing she can do. She's turned her back on everyone, And they've turned away, too. The winter's growing colder, A bitter chill inside. She thinks that no one loves her. Sees no reason for her life. And now she feels she's all alone, And she cannot find her way home. She forgets where she came from. And now she fears she's gone too far, 'Cause she does not know where to start. She's in need of a Savior. He's heard all the stories At least a million times, But no one could love like that, So it has to be a lie. And now he feels he's all alone, And he cannot find his way home. He forgets where he came from. And now he fears he's gone too far, 'Cause he does not know where to start. He's in need of a Savior. There are millions just like them, Without a hope, without a friend, Crying out in need. But Jesus gave His sacrifice So that we could all have life, And He'll never leave our side. So when you feel you're all alone, And you cannot find your way home. Don't forget where you came from. And when you feel you've gone too far, He will meet you where you are. He's a beautiful Savior.

about

"Secondhand People" is an album about redemption. These are, in my mind, the most important songs I've ever written, as they deal with the things that get in the way of our relationship with Christ. I truly believe that Christ's love is able to overcome all of these distractions and barriers... I hope that's the message that will come through this music.
